Rockingham hosts the first 2013 race

There was much relief all round, given the record-breaking cold March that had put paid to many a driver's testing, as Rockingham (almost) basked in sunshine today for the opening of the 2013 season. A total of 24 drivers queued for qualified, including a very-last-minute entry by Chris Valentine, stepping into Ian Loggie's 986 Boxster as he called in with suspected food poisening. There were no surprises as reigning champion from 2012 Rick Styrin set a scorching 1:38.9 qualifier to take pole on the grid for Race 1. In the 924s, Hen Sharpe pipped Simon Hawksley to their pole position by 0.369 seconds, with Julian Brown ahead of Bernie Printy in the Class B Boxsters.

Series sponsor Jasmine Porschalink UK attended their first race too, with a van-load of Porsche parts at the ready.
