6 hour endurance race for club racers for < £1000

Postby andy97 » Wed Aug 04, 2010 10:51 am

Just to remind those of you that do not frequent other Racing Forums (inc the forum of another well known website beginning with "10") that the 360 motor Racing Club's inaugral 6 hour race for club racers WILL take place on 15 August at Snetterton as NOT FOR PROFIT event.

The aim is to attract club racers who would normally be unable to race in events like the Spa 6 hours or the Guards Trophy etc.

The club are still taking entries and can have a grid of 47 for the event. Entrance fee is likly to be less than £1000 & there is the possibility of a rebate if the full grid number is approached.

In order to encourage as wider particaption as possible, the eligibility parameters have been extended. So, the event was originally targeted for saloon and GT cars built between 1968 and 1986, but this has now been extended backwards to include Pre 1968 touring cars and also production sports cars, provided 1000 examples have been built. Porsche 924 and Porsche 944's will definately be eligible & would be a good bet, I'd have thought.

This is a very long race so a well prepared, reliable and consistent older car could still be in with a shout of a top ten finish, although naturally, we don't wish to see a high attrition rate.

There is also a Invtation Class for those cars that don't strictly apply to the eligibility criteria but are considered to be in the spirit of the event.

A Porsche 962 and a Le Mans Aston Martin will be demonstrated at the event.

Radio Le Mans will be providing coverage.

Practice and 6 hours of race track time for < £1000.

There are several 924s entered for this event already. A few more & you might get your own class!

3 x 924's took part in this years 360MRC 6 Hour race last saturday at Snetterton. A real clubman grassroots event but none the worse for that. Proper endurance racing with a mixture of speed, tactics, mechanical sympathy & mechanical tales of wo & heroics all involved. Fantastic value for money & a great atmosphere, camararderie, banter, teamwork etc etc

The 924s finished 7th, 10th & 13th but only 16 starters, sadly. This was only the second year of running the event but it is growing & lets hope its even bigger next year. All the 924s had problems of one sort or another, including one team having to dash to norwich to buy 2 x spare fuel pumps(!) but the 924 did prove itself as an excellent handling car & used fuel at only 21 litres an hour so an ideal endurance racer at this level.

Lets hope there's more cars out there next year. Come on, folks, this really was great day & I really enjoyed it. I'm proud to have been part of it.

PS. The car I was in (an Alfa Sprint) finished 8th after gear linkage problems.
