Snetterton 300 Race Report

Clark secures Championship at Snetterton!

The new Snetterton 300 circuit was host to the penultimate meeting of the Porsche Championship on 17th/ 18thSeptember, and saw Dave Clark wrap up both the Boxster class and overall Championships, for the second consecutive year.

Some fantastic close racing throughout the field, also saw two dominant victories for Steve Brown in the 924 class, edging him ever closer to 924 class honours.

Clark didn’t have it all his own way, however, and despite taking the race one win, he was pushed hard all the way by the trio of Team TF Motorsport drivers, Richard Sykes, Rick Styrin and Gerry Taylor, and in race two, Sykes finally managed to get one over his arch rival and take a well deserved race victory. Second place ahead of Styrin in third, was nevertheless enough to give Clark the points he needed to wrap up both titles after a near perfect season from him.

In the 924 class, despite Steve Brown romping away to two relatively easy victories, the battle for 2nd, 3rdand 4thin both races was fiercely contested between Alastair Kirkham, Adam Croft and Alfred Piesinger, with the three drivers within a second of each other at all times. Kirkham and Croft filled the podium positions in race one, whilst in race 2, Piesinger was the man to take second place ahead of Kirkham in third.

The competitiveness of the 924 field was clearly demonstrated in race two with the fastest laps of the top 6 drivers all in the 2m 25s bracket, and a new name picking up fastest lap honours in the shape of Mark Mackenzie.

The championship now moves on to Rockingham for the final meeting of the season in October. Despite Clark having secured the overall Championship and the Boxster Championship, there is still all to play for in the 924 class, where Alfred Piesinger and Adam Croft will be pushing Steve Brown as hard as they can to decide the top three positions in the class. Teammates Gerry Taylor and Rick Styrin will also be locked in battle to see who can finish runner up to Clark in the Boxster class.

It should be a fantastic finale to what has been a great season of racing in the Porsche Championship!
