PDA 924 Features in Toyo Tests

Volkswagen Driver magazine recently featured an article on the new road-legal track day tyre from Toyo, a re-worked version of the R888 that is the "control tyre" for the BRSCC Porsche Championship. The new R888R, shown to the public for the first time at the Autosport show at the NEC in January, has been re-engineered to perform better in all areas for both track day drivers and for the various championships who have adopted it; extra grippy variants will suit sprint and hill-climb applications.

Alan Meaker, who is Toyo UK's Technical and Motorsport Director, said "That the new R888R worked so well in the Japanese tests was wonderful to see but before the factory pushed the final button for full production, we all agreed that a full on-track dest to truly ascertain the tyre's performance would be the key to creating a really great product". Croft circuit in Yorkshire was chosen as the venue for a test day that included ex-BTCC driver Tom Onslow-Cole driving a variety of VW cars - plus one of the 924s that run in Class C of our championship. Tom said he completed "many, many laps" in the venerable race car - older in fact than Tom himself.

To be initially produced in 32 sizes, the new R888R will not become the PDA control tyre until the 2016 season. For more information on the new tyre or to find your nearest Proxes dealer, visit the Toyo UK website at http://www.toyo.co.uk/
