Mallory Park Race Preview

The second half of the season kicks off at Mallory Park!

Eight races down, eight to go! On Sunday 18th July, the BRSCC Porsche Championship heads to Leicestershire for rounds 9 and 10 at Mallory Park.

The self-proclaimed ‘Friendly Circuit’ is a 1.35 mile, 5-corner blast, which is defined by the never ending right hander of Gerard’s. The quickest 924’s lap this track in just over 55 seconds....expect the Boxsters to be sub-50 seconds.

This is the ‘Marmite track’ on the calendar....some love it’s flat out nature, others think it offers little challenge to the drivers; either way, it’s certainly a circuit that bites back if you get it wrong.

We are expecting our biggest grid size of the season for this meeting with 15+ 924’s, and at least 8 Boxsters. The Championship fight in both Classes is still wide open, with any number of drivers capable of taking the spoils in either category. In the 924’s, Alistair Kirkham will be desperate to re-establish his authority after two dominant wins by Steve Brown last time out at Anglesey, whilst Andrew Hannington and Adam Croft simply refuse to give up the chase at this half way stage. The Flegg cars will undoubtedly be on the pace again, but the potential fly in the ointment will be Anglesey debutant, Richard ‘The Stig’ Styrin, who impressed everyone with his pace and race two podium at the last meeting.

Less than 20 points separates the top three Boxsters at this half way stage of the season. New boy Gerry Taylor gave the Daves Clark and Hughes, Nick Hull and Sean Cooper something to think about when he was on the pace from the first session at Anglesey, winning race two after an off from Clark. Picking a winner from the competitive Boxster boys is becoming increasingly difficult to do!

With qualifying and the two races all on the same day (Sunday 18th June) at one of the most spectator friendly circuits on the calendar, this is one not to be missed!

Qualifying – 11.10am – 20 mins

Race 1 – 2.45pm – 20 mins

Race 2 – 5.25pm – 20 mins
