Donington Park Race Preview - 20th / 21st October 2012

Donington Preview: Can anyone stop Gerry and his Pacemakers?

This weekend (20th/21st October) sees the the final round of the LOGSON GROUP PORSCHE CHAMPIONSHIP at historic Donington Park circuit, and we are expecting an entry in excess of 30 cars for the grand finale at this triple header meeting!

As if that wasn’t enough to get excited about, we also have Championship honours in two of the three classes of the Logson Group Porsche Championship still to be resolved!

It’s ‘Congratulations’ firstly to Steve Potts who managed to clinch the Boxster Production Class Championship from ex-924 Champion Steve Brown at the last round at Croft. Both are now looking to ‘upgrade’ to the full fat Boxster class next year.

But in the Race Spec Boxster class, 4 drivers head into the last round with a chance of the Championship. David Bearman currently in 4th place with 276 points has had a fantastic season, but in reality would be a long shot for overall victory. So it will likely fall to Richard Sykes (3rd with 292 points) and Gerry Taylor (2nd with 297 points) to take the fight to title favourite Rick Styrin, currently on 323 points. Taking dropped scores into account, a worst case scenario of just two 7th place finishes from the three races at Donington would see Styrin crowned a worthy Champion!

It’s as close, if not closer between the top 3 Porsche 924 drivers fighting for Class honours. Alastair Kirkham (301 points)  has lead the Championship from the very first round at Oulton Park, but Sean Siddal (currently 2nd on 288 points) and Simon Hawksley (3rd on 283 points) have started to close in dramatically over the last few rounds. However, with neither Siddal, nor impressive rookie Hawksley, having any dropped scores to bring into play, you’d have to look towards experienced 924 campaigner Kirkham to finally wrap up the title he has long yearned for.

And with drivers in all classes looking to settle their own personal battles throughout the field, it’s all to play for during what should be an epic triple header!

We’re also delighted to welcome back former 924 pilots John Broadley and Hugh Peart for an end of season on track blow out, and it will also be the first time we see both of the Sharpe brothers (Will and Hen) on track, after Will’s impressive Boxster debut at Croft.

As this is the last race of the season, on behalf of all the drivers and race mechanics, we would like to offer our heartfelt thanks (and in no particular order) to the following:

  • All the Race Marshalls that have done us proud and looked after us through the year
  • The BRSCC and all the race officials that make it all possible.
  • Ian Loggie, the CEO of the LOGSON GROUP our title championship sponsor, without whom a lot of our 'package' would not be complete; we sincerely hope that we can continue our relationship into 2013.
  • All our suppliers and in particular to Toyo 'Tony' for the support and back up for all the classes in the Championship.

The weekend looks set to be a real corker! Come and meet us, talk to the drivers and see what a great Championship this is!
