Snetterton 300 Race Preview - 17th / 18th September

The Design 911.com Porsche Championship pays its first visit to the new Snetterton 300 circuit this weekend (17th/ 18thSeptember) and with a ‘level playing field’ could we see the established stars facing a stronger challenge?  It will be an untried circuit and could favour drivers that excel on the tighter sections of the established venues.

Dave Clark stamped his authority at the last meeting at Brands Hatch, back to his old form after a miserable (for him) Rockingham.  The Boxster entry will be enhanced by the return of Gerry Taylor, back from his Olympic cycling exploits and one Richard Sykes.  Richard’s only other appearance this year was at Cadwell Park where he shook the establishment up a bit and proved a serious challenge to championship leader Dave Clark.  Richard’s ‘spirited’ driving style may just see him near the top step of the podium this weekend.

Whilst Dave Clark has a firm hold at the top of the Boxster class, the other major places are wide open with Richard Styrin having David and John Bearman snapping at this heels and Gerry Taylor looking for his usual podium slots.  Hopefully, the majority of the Boxsters damaged at Brands Hatch will be back in action especially the Brookspeed cars of Martin Braybrook’s Southampton race team.

The 924’s did not escape unscathed from the Brands Hatch mêlées but the damage was less severe.  Adam Croft continues his run of success and looks to be a serious threat to overall championship standings in the 924’s if he continues his Brands form.  Steve Brown and Andrew Hannington both had a good Brands outing but less so for Jayson Flegg who struggled in race 1 after his fateful Rockingham meeting, but still picked up a podium in the second race. Sean Sidall had his best meeting of the year at Brands and is worth an outside bet for a podium this weekend.

In the overall championship standings there are a mere 18 points behind Dave Clark. so could we see a 924 taking overall honours at the end of the season?  Watch this space!

Our final championship rounds have been moved from Donnington Park to Rockingham, the date is the 15thand 16thOctober, a meeting not to be missed and Gerry Taylor likes this one….

But for now, enjoy this weekend’s racing at Snetterton!
