Cadwell Park Race Preview - 4th / 5th June 2011

Cadwell Park Preview - 4th / 5th June

The month of June will be a busy one for the Porsche Championship as rounds five to eight are played out at two of the UK’s best driver’s tracks, Cadwell Park (4th / 5th June) and then Oulton Park (on 18th June).

By the end of this ‘Northern leg’ of the Championship, the season will unbelievably already be at its half way point; meaning Cadwell and Oulton will be crucial meetings for all those driver’s looking to stamp their mark on the 2011 season.

The daunting 2.1 mile long Cadwell Park (dubbed the ‘mini-Nurburgring’) is a real test of man and machine; get it wrong at this track, and you know about it, as many of the drivers have discovered first hand over the years!

Dave Clark will be looking to extend his 2011 100% victory record with another double win at Cadwell, but the evidence of Donington Park last month suggests that task could be tougher than ever with both Gerry Taylor and Richard Styrin pushing Clark hard all the way to the flag. Returning to the Boxster fold at Cadwell for what everyone hopes will be more than just a one-off meeting, is regular 2010 podium finisher, Richard Sykes. Expect Sykes to be right on the pace of the front-runners from the outset. The ever swelling Boxster numbers will be in stark contrast to last year, when just two Boxsters competed in the inaugural round of the 2010’s come a long way in just 12 months.

Picking a winner for the next race in the 924 class is somewhat less predictable! Already we have seen three different winners from four races (Jayson Flegg, Andrew Hannington and Alfred Piesinger) this season, and it would be foolish to believe that this list won’t grow between now and the chequered flag at Oulton Park. Steve Brown, Alistair Kirkham, Adam Croft and Mark Marshall are just four of the 924 drivers gunning for that elusive first win of the season....and realistically any of the current 15 strong grid could spring a surprise if things go their way!

So it’s Clark, from Piesinger, Taylor and Flegg in the Championship Standings as we head into the Cadwell Park weekend; but with the dropped scores system now coming into play, anything could happen, and it probably will!

The Porsche Championship really is in great shape as we head towards the mid point of the season!
