Crankshaft

Postby Porsche917 » Fri Jun 24, 2011 4:28 pm

Hi
Finally got the car apart - thought our problems might be due to a loose flywheel - no, the flywheel is nice and tight, the problem is that it has broken itself quite neatly away from the rear of the crankshaft. So neatly that it hasn't even damaged the rear oil seal. So, trying to source a new crankshaft - does anyone have one that they reckon is pretty good? (I'll crack test it before installation) - that is looking for a home for not a lot of £££?
Cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Sorry, dont have a spare, but the best idea is to buy a complete bottom end or complete engine from someone like Alistair, especially if he has heard it running. Thats a very unusual breakage, they usually bend and run a bearing. Make sure you can get bearings and gaskets for whatever you purchase, and be prepared to have to regrind it unless it is absolutely spot on - Gwyn should be able to help with bearings and gaskets.
