Front Suspension plastic bearing

Postby force44 » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:02 am

Have people kept these or thrown them out?
Its two black plastic plates sandwiched together with ball-bearings and grease in the middle.

Mine fell apart when I originally built it, so I threw them out. But now I get a squealing when turning the steering at low speed when hot.

No. 11 on the attached diagram. Image

I think they should go back in, but it will raise the ride height and mean I'll be running the front dampers on the bottom of the spring perch adjusters. i.e. Might compromise how low I can get the front.

Any advice welcome?

So I'll answer my own question... You can't refit the bearing as the spring diameter is different on the Gaz.

I'm left with the metal top hat of the Gaz shock rubbing on the bottom metal of the triangular top mount which is noisy / squeals esp when hot.

To reduce this I've added high temp grease and am putting a thin 2mm ptfe (low friction) washer in between.
