Its worth checking!! But where do you stop?!

Thing about these old race cars is you've got to keep an eye on them! Just having a tinker today, with the car :?

And found one of the coolant pipes on the back of the engine had been rubbing on something else and nearly worn thru. Relatively easy fix.....provided you have monkey hands and magnetic fingers! but could have ruined my Anglesey weekend in a steamy damp mess had I not spotted it.

Now the question is what other 20 year old components about to fail or fall off! I mean you can’t check everything, and the smallest thing can ruin the race!

Like most I have a fairly comprehensive pre race weekend check list, mainly brakes, fuel system, suspension nuts and bolts, and fluids. Is it enough!.........oooooooohhhhhhh now I’m all paranoid....back to the garage for another check!

HI Steve,

Know what you mean! We always checked the alternator and timing belts for any little nicks, and changed the timing belt after five or six races and definately if I had been through a gravel trap. Yes they should last longer than that, but we dont run covers, and bits and pieces get thrown up. Wiring to the fuel pumps, electrical and extinguisher pulls, seat belt mounts and floor. Bear in mind that the floor on a 924 tends to crack rather than corrode.

Hope all is well
